Iconic rock and roll photographer Robert M Knight has been around the music business for over 45 years, having worked with the who’s who of rock, blues and jazz. Always having an eye and ear for finding young artists and bands before anyone else it was a natural progression to move into the world of artist management. Robert’s career as a photographer brought him into contact with the key people behind the music business and he has brought that knowledge and his contacts to the management side of his business.
The subject of the multi award winning film “Rock Prophecies” Robert started to receive hundreds of emails a month from young artists asking for his help after seeing what he did for Tyler Bryant and Sick Puppies in the film. Robert was instrumental in the early years of Tyler Bryant the 16 year old guitar slinger from Texas, from finding his band mates to getting him signed by CAA and endorsed by Fender. While filming “Rock Prophecies” Tyler got to meet guitar god Jeff Beck and in recent years has been touring with Jeff on his America tours as his opening act.
Robert was also instrumental in spotting Australian band Sick Puppies and convincing manager Paul Stepanek to bring them to LA. Robert was able to also convince film maker John Chester to include The Puppies in “Rock Prophecies” which served as a spring board for their launch in America.
Robert and Paul have worked together since, with Robert turning over the English band The Feud, Robert had been developing.
IN 2009 Robert signed Joshua Ray Gooch after seeing him preform in Guitar Center’s “King of the Blues” and within months Joshua was touring the world as Beth Hart’s guitar player. After a call from the management of the mega Japanese Artist Koshi Inaba from the BZ’s in search of a guitar player for his solo tour of Japan, Robert was able to secure the position for Joshua and replace him in Beth Harts band with guitar slinger PJ Barth.
Returning from Japan Robert was able to negotiate a contract for Joshua to become the lead guitar player for Shania Twain’s new band after her 12 year absence from the music business. Joshua remains in the band and is about to start her first mega world tour.
In 2012 Robert formed The Brotherhood of the Guitar and Drummerhood which serves as a platform and incubator to showcase the best young guitarists and drummers that are emerging worldwide. With the backing of Guitar Center, Fender and Ernie Ball Strings Robert has been able to travel the world finding this amazing group of players. Its from this pool of players Robert is able to find and place artists in key music projects and bands such as Nick Cianci becoming house guitar player on America’s Got Talent.
2014 Robert signed the amazing 16 year old Canadian singer songwriter guitar player Lyric Dubee, formed his band and brought him to LA to record with Grammy winning producer Warren Huart. Fall of 2015 will see the launch of this amazing artist.
2015 Robert signed Elijah Wood the phenomenal young 18 year old drummer from New York, who became the house drummer for America’s Got Talent. Elijah blew everyone away at the 2015 NAMM show playing with Jordan Rudess from Dream Theatre.
Elijah just got the most coveted position as Shania Twain’s new drummer for her upcoming world tour. Elijah has a major book and dvd coming out late 2015 for Hal Leonard and plans are underway to do his first solo album. Robert believes Elijah might be the best young drummer he has seen since working with 16 yr old Terry Bozzio when he was in Frank Zappa’s band.
Recently Robert signed Toronto’s red hot young guitar player Steve Costello who is also part of Lyric Dubee’s new band and long time musical partner with drummer Elijah Wood. Steve has toured the world with Elijah as part of the Mark Wood Musical Experience
Steve was recently invited to play on the Joe Bonamassa “Blues Cruise” Plans are underway for the Steve Costello solo album!
